Topical Times  Panel Portraits (10 x 4) Black and White and Coloured sets shown.

Prices vary: £2-£40 each. The Scottish and Irish sets always demand higher prices. Though a few of the English ones are equally as evasive to find.

The Football League was formed in 1888, it was originally formed from just 12 teams, my team Everton had actually been going for 10years previously. These Panel Portraits are from sets by D.C. Thomson, they age around the 1930s, mainly 1932-1939, their images now form part of a wider stage in history. The shorts were called "Knickers". The boots were more like those that the modern day army uses. Often studs were "sharpened". Supposedly a time when Men were Men!

Certainly a time I would get a clout from my dad...

The above photographs are all from the Coloured set of Panel Portraits, measuring approx 10 x 4, they were presented weekly to be placed in one album, they include:

Willie Lyon (Celtic), Thomas Brady (Hibernian), William J Bruce (Albion Rovers),                               Robert Beattie (Kilmarnock), W. Dale (Manchester City), Rob Baxter (Middlesbrough),                     Stewart Calderwood (Partick Thistle), W.J. Crayston (Arsenal), Robert Harrison (Hamilton Academicals), Thomas Mooney (Airdrie), Vic Woodley (Chelsea) and W. Martin (Queen's Park).
